Kebaya by Ratianah

A household name amongst kebaya lovers in Singapore, Kebaya by Ratianah started in Singapore almost twenty years ago. Helmed by Ratianah herself, it started as a personal interest in creating beautiful garments which later evolved into a love and subsequent focus on traditional wear.

Presently housed at the corner of Bussorah Street in the heritage belt of Kg Glam, Ratianah’s kebaya shop is a reflection of her years of experience as a tailor, designer and entrepreneur. She initially picked up her sewing skills from an old neighbour but began to take it more seriously by taking up classes and becoming an apprentice to her sister and mother-in-law who were skilled at making traditional clothes.

Making kebaya is a tedious process. Especially one with embroidery, which is also one of Ratianah’s iconic best sellers. Depending on the intricacy of the design and the amount of workmanship required, it takes approximately 1-2 months to produce one embroidered kebaya.

The kebaya worn by the dolls in this Orkids’ series were all carefully handmade and sewn piece by piece. The materials used are carefully chosen and are the same as the adult-sized kebayas that are available in the shop, so you and your dolls can both wear matching kebayas!

True to the zesty spirit of its founder, Kebaya by Ratianah is a testament to the everlasting beauty of traditional heritage garments. It is with this love for the kebaya that Orkids was born - Ratianah’s way of planting the seeds in the children’s hearts to love, appreciate and wear the kebaya with pride.

Orkids is Kebaya by Ratianah’s first collaboration with Mini Monsters.
